Anonymous asked: ABC has yet to formally announce Scandal’s renewal. Do you think this fact warrants being attributed any significance? Google is reporting that season 4 of Scandal will air in January 2015. In your opinion, is it reasonable that given the competitive environment, the Scandal hiatus be this long (almost 9 months)? If you are in a position to answer the questions, I would be grateful for your response.
Anon, ABC typically doesn’t do renewals until right before their upfronts. None of their shows have been renewed. I do not know anything about it returning in January 2015, however. IMO, that is way too long and people will find something else to watch by then. Scandal is not Mad Men, GoT or the Sopranos.
It is not. The masses will move on and no amount of press will bring them back if Scandal comes back in January.
I disagree, ABC could decide to push it back if for no other reason than football. Besides I wouldn’t underestimate what Scandal has in it’s arsenal for PR. It just takes the right amount of exposure to bring an audience back. American Horror Story has 9 month hiatuses as does Mad Men and a host of other shows. While Scandal may lack the quality and the niche that AHS has they have something that no other show on television has. All they have to do is use it the right way. They have done in it the past and ratings went crazy….it wouldn’t take much.
I totally disagree. What do you imagine Scandal has that no other show could emulate and well do better, which would not be hard?
You misunderstand me. I am talking from a PR standpoint to bring back an audience that may not want to wait 9 months for it to come back.
They only thing they could possibly promote to bring an audience in is Olitz. And SR has fucked that up so badly that even die-hard Olitzers have had enough. Could they try it? Sure. Sleepy Hollow is doing a long ass hiatus as do lots of these other shows. But none of them have had an entire season and a half of fuckery at its back that it would be returning from (except Mad Men from what I hear and their ratings I’m hearing are crap).
I have been saying this for the past few weeks and nikkisshadetree and ramblerthoughts can confirm it for you. TERRY SAVES ALL! It will take very little to get people scrambling back. Maybe not Tumblr folks but the causal viewer. The numbers that will keep the show on the air…will be there.Wait, are you saying you think Kerry and Tony’s real life situation and relationship is what could save Scandal and get some good publicity for the show?
I am saying the combination of Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn doing publicity for the show TOGETHER will get most of the audience back. Will that be temporarily? Probably. Whatever their real life relationship is doesn’t change their combined magic. That is all I am saying.Ahh, yeah. Never in all my TV watching years have I seen two leads of a show decline to do publicity together for so long. Two public appearances in almost 10 months? Mmkay!
That’s a whole other set of issues.
Bolded but well I think we’re all sleeping.
