Anonymous said: It seems as though Shonda doesn't like Olitz, even though the majority of scandal fans love them. Do you have any guesses or any insight as to why she might not like that pairing? Does it have anything to do with the actors?
I have no idea what goes on in Shonda’s head. I don’t know that it’s that she doesn’t like them as much as she really underestimated their popularity. The show stopped being a “Shonda Rhimes show” and became a “Kerry and Tony and Olitz show”. She didn’t anticipate the way the actors would captivate the audience.
OMG!!! I totally believe that! It’s something I have thought for a long time. I think when the show began, she was probably happy about the way Olitz was received on screen. But as they developed the love story between them and it literally became every Scandal fan’s reason to breathe…she was like…hold up a minute…I need to get the focus back on me. No one was talking about how SR knocked it out of the park with Scandal. People were talking about the crazy intense chemistry between KW and TG and basically watching to see it. It was like a blow to her ego.
It also underlines Shonda’s selfishness and shortsightedness. As the creator of Scandal, you should have been too happy to jump on the phenomenal Olitz bandwagon and easily rip out the benefits. You of all people would have been the greatest beneficiary on so many levels in the long run.
yes I always believed that this was the case
The bold says it all
let me join in the festivities of celebrating Kerry’s decoy. So here’s to remembering Disha’s Eagle days. Drop down and get your Eagle on Girl…Drop down and get your Eagle on Girl..Go Disha…Go Disha…heartsandpalmtrees keeping record…i can’t…CRINE
To add to the festivities - Kerry dancing to her boo’s anthem…
I love how she makes sure she says in almost every interview that she appreciates the fans and that the fans saved the show.
Please don’t reblog if you don’t agree or have something negative to say. Thanks
that’s why I don’t understand why she said she doesn’t look to social media for her work’s worth .. it doesn’t make sens with this quote
I think she’s saying there’s a difference between involving and appreciating fans in social media vs. having her self-worth and competency in her role defined by it.
Agree with heartsandpalmtrees.
She also said that people online can be mean and act like they’re in high school and pointed out how some of her cast mates have borne the brunt of it. I don’t think that your self worth should be based on interactions with your fans in social media. However, when your success depends on the fans it’s also important that they have a space where they can let you know how they feel about the show. It seems to me that while the people from the show love the adulation they are not so gracious when it comes to meaningful critiques of the show. Talk about how badass Mellie is and you get a retweet. Talk about how Jake abused Olivia and you get radio silence. And talk about how you’re sick of Olivia being called a whore and you’ll get ignored some more. I appreciate show runners and casts who realize that the fans ultimately decide if a show is heading off into a ditch. The go along to get a tweet mentality helped drive the show into the ditch and at some point someone besides Tony has to acknowledge that the show has veered off course. If it makes me a bad fan to point it out then consider me an ex fan.
Exactly.(via blackstaraura) Agreed with Salem and your tags blackstaraura
Don’t talk about what I like. Don’t talk about what I don’t like. Switch it. From here on out, I’m an Olake and Mellitz fan. If enough people join me in support of these loving, healthy relationships, the sooner they will be destroyed.
Jake having the courage to choke Olivia when she got out of line?
And the way Mellie shows her devotion to Fitz by inducing labor a month early?

I think everyone should just stop giving interviews cause they are tapping on my last nerve. Blaming social media is the go to response nowadays, until they want something. We are not to blame for you being embarrassed of your significant other. Those are personal problems we can’t help you with. Social media saved that show, but SR wants to talk about how twitter doesn’t really matter? Ok. I wish I would tweet another Scandal hashtag.
I sure won’t.
I forgot her words exactly but she said something about high school….like really?! I get it that sometimes fans can go overboard but twitter made scandal sorrynotsorry.
Can someone please get me the exact quote? Please
Kerry: I don’t weigh myself because there’s never a good answer on the scale. For me reading comments is the same way. It’s brain clutter. But it is hard, in social media you feel like you’re a community. People in social media can be very mean. Some of our cast members have struggled with it a lot. Sometimes people come to social media to find a community, a sense of belonging, a place where they feel like they can empower themselves. Often that can be a positive place. Sometimes it’s done in really negative ways by building community through judgment and criticism and a holier than thou attitude. I have to protect myself from that because it’s sort of high school. As much as I want to be part of that community, I don’t look to the social media community to affirm my work. Kerry Washington
Thank you got the direct quote. Now there is dome thing to react to. May I also ask where this was and what question prompted/led yo this response, or what the discussion was that prompted it?
I bet the cast mates struggling with this have the initials SF and BY, right ? Especially Sf ?
^^^May they continue to struggle. Lol.
We want BY & SF to struggle a lot with social media reactions triggered by their stupid and bigoted words and actions….LOL….They only have themselves to blame for that….
Interesting that she added the words “holier than thou.” Wonder if that is a general or specific comment. Rare is the moment when KW makes an off-the-cuff comment. I would only ever speak for myself, but I have absolutely zero regrets over anything critical I have said about her deserving-of-scorn cast mates BY or FFF or her show creator, the awful SR—who is intent on using BY and FFF to attempt to change the premise of the show and ruin and/or limit the once-great character of Olivia Pope. I also have no regrets about criticizing the romanticization of physical/domestic abuse on the show by pretending that Joke and Liv could have any other relationship other than abuser and victim. You write dangerous, irresponsible bs like that, then you can expect to receive disgust from those whom it offends. Also interesting is that many fans critical of the behavior of BY and FFF are hard-core Liv and Olitz fans, the latter of whom Shonda thinks are horrible people rooting for an extramarital affair and not just fans of terrific acting, off-the-charts chemistry, and a true love story between characters who are soulmates. Again, as many have said, you use social media to sell your show — you are going to get opinions about all involved — especially those who try to promote themselves and denigrate the lead character or slight the lead actress (BY) or those who are just bitter, talentless, fan-baiting, frivolous-lawsuit-filing crybabies (FFF). I wouldn’t mind if KW employed a IDTAMJDCM policy - As in I don’t talk about my jealous, delusional cast mates. But just like us, she is free to use her voice for whatever and whomever she wants.
Excellent comment Jules!…You summed it up perfectly! 👍👋
Funny that she commented on her “poor” cast mates and their “hurt” feelings / white tears, but didn’t think to mention the very vocal outrage and disgust expressed by the fans ON social media ON HER behalf at the utter decimation and degradation of Olivia…..or did she “miss” THOSE posts?? SMH…
Bold plus fuck the poor cast what Foley? Malina? BY? Y’all remember when Foley used to continue prodding fans on twitter like why did he do that? As a professional you just keep mum and never provoke fans same goes to Malina the one lined cast member!!
Twitter Social Media works both ways. They say they don’t need fans r us tweeting then we don’t. We don’t vote anything Scandal. They want to take digs at us as fake fans. The we do it back. Shonda says she doesn’t need Twitter but then why was everything abt a hash tag r breaking Twitter.
#RealfansofScandal don’t promote abuse

Why would the STAR of Scandal be “concerned” about being written off the show? What kind of threats were made to her?
Let’s go further. The total decimation of the character during the season as well as the elevation of others signaled the end of Olivia Pope. Let’s see if the backlash from the majority of fans and critics gets it back on track. I realized that Scandal is the adult version of Twisted.(via salemgirl0625)
Wow! Quote is VERY telling as it speaks volumes given she is the LEAD/STAR of the show. Smh.(via moze1scandal)
Salem I tweeted that shit. Do you know Twisted lost half their fan base because of how they did Lacey to elevate poor Jo. Now no one has a job. And why is Kerry answering this? She isn’t being vehement with her dislike.(via miaadamswhat)
This is the reason I don’t do her interviews no no more. No offence but I can’t lol(via scandalous911)
I’m that gif reading this quote.
